Jon H. Van de Grift is an Associate at Campbell, Lauter & Murphy. He brings a broad background in science, humanities, business, and real estate to the practice of law at Campbell, Volk & Lauter. Following his Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology and Anthropology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he went on to complete a Ph.D. at Columbia University in New York in the Department of Art History and Archaeology. During this time, he also earned degrees in both Greek and Latin (magna cum laude) at the New York University Graduate Center/Brooklyn College, and was awarded Scholarships from the Samuel H. Kress Foundation, and a Fulbright Fellowship for his studies at the University of Rome (Italy).
With his facility in Italian, French and German, Mr. Van de Grift conducted doctoral research throughout Western Europe for two years. Following his academic career in Columbia University's Humanities Core Curriculum and School of the Arts, Mr. Van de Grift entered the business world of Marketing & Communications in both New York and San Diego. He holds licenses as a California Real Estate Broker and a State Certified Residential Real Estate Appraiser.
Mr. Van de Grift received his Juris Doctor from California Western School of Law in San Diego in 1996. In the same year, he was admitted to the California State Bar and to the Central and Southern District Federal Courts. Mr. Van de Grift joins Campbell, Volk & Lauter after five years of a general civil litigation practice with the firm of Kring & Brown. At Campbell, Volk & Lauter, Mr. Van de Grift practices in Intellectual Property Defense, Personal Injury, Business and Construction Defect Defense. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of California and the San Diego County Bar Association.
Mr. Van de Grift has handled both bench and jury trials, and prides himself on great success with conducting discovery, and the drafting of effective dispositive and discovery motions that avoid costly litigation. Recently, through such motions as well as through settlement, Mr. Van de Grift was instrumental in the reduction of 18 consolidated civil cases brought against a business entity to only two that went to trial. Mr. Van de Grift has resided in San Diego since 1987 with his wife Sharon, and children Jacob, Jenna and Sean.
